Coorg: Coorg is called as the 'Scotland of India' and 'Kashmir of the South' by the people who have visited it and been enthralled by its beauty. It is beautiful hill country having so many tall hills and the tallest mountain peak is around 6000 feet high. The place is a treat for the eye for the honeymoon goers. It is abundant with green forests, greener coffee estates and pale green rice valleys. A walk around a coffee estate is indeed a fragrant experience. What to See: Talacauvery forms the source of the river Cauvery and offers a spectacular view. On Sankaramana day in October, there happens a miracle with sudden bubbling and frothing of the small well, which symbolizes the appearance of the Goddess Cauvery. Madikeri is charming hillstation. The Fort at Madikeri is very popular and offers a panoramic view of Madikeri from its walls. It has enchanted millions of travellers with its misty hills, lush forests, coffee plantations and breath taking views. From the Raja's Seat, one can view spectacular sunsets. The Temple at Bhagamandala is built in the multi-roofed Kerala style Nagarhole. National Park has over 250 varieties of birds, panthers, tigers, and flying squirrels. This park is made up of teak, rosewood, sandalwood, silver oak etc. Jeeps and elephants are available to tourists for transport. It is a great place to relax. Around Coorg: Coorg’s most important temple, Padi Igutappa temple was built as hunting lodge. There are honey farms in the vicinity. Cauvery Nisargadhama is a great place to cuddle up for the night. It is a 2.5 sq. km. large island in the middle of the River Cauvery, is very apt for romance. Jungle safaris are available as elephant rides. Abbi Falls (7 kms) from Madikeri town are as remarkable and striking a sight as you would see anywhere. The narrow road to Abbi Falls is a combination of steep ups and downs, twists and turns, squirming through the green surrounding coffee plantations. A narrow pathway leads you to a waterfall splashing hard against the huge boulders of rock. This white wall of water creates a misty cloud with its moisture-like spray and descends into a flowing stream to perhaps join with the River Cauvery somewhere in the vicinity. Somwarpet (42 kms) is the coffee heartland of Coorg. While reaching this place, you will see magnificent trees reaching up to the skies, casting much wanted masses of shade to the coffee plants. Getting there: Coimbatore and Bangalore are the nearest airports. Ooty or Mysore are the nearest railway stations. It is preferable to travel by road as other than that they are connected by toy train only. The road journey will offer you a scenic drive through the coffee plantations. Bus service in Madikeri has connections to almost every place in Coorg, Alternatively, there are regular buses to Mysore, Mangalore, Hassan, Chikmagalur, Shimoga. Specialties: For the people with adventure in heart, it is an absolute treat. There are plenty of options for trekking, golfing and angling. You can also relax your body and mind with special Ayurvedic massages. It is like the dreamland of the philosopher. If you’re the type who likes to mingle with nature, romance in the mountains, feel the tingle of the cool and gentle breeze and hear sounds of birds fill the air, then it is just the place for you.
